The Canon Logic - “Avenue Of Criminals”

Brooklyn based band, The Canon Logic, will release FM Arcade this coming Tuesday. Jam packed with layers upon layers of harmony, melody and everything in between, FM Arcade is a collection of anthemic piano driven indie-pop songs in the same vain as The Hush Sound and The Killers.

I love this song for two reasons. One being the arpeggiated guitar and piano melodies that swirl around in the background and two, the name “Amy” is in this song. What can I say, I’m easy to please!

If you’re in the NYC area, The Canon Logic will be playing their CD release show at Mercury Lounge tomorrow night (3/5). — Amy

tuneage:

Best Coast - “Something in the Way”

With good fuzz-rock, there’s something in the way (see what I did there?) the melody sneaks through the feedback and the noise that I just love. It’s almost like the music wants you to work a little harder to really get something out of it. And Best coast play good fuzz-rock. More accurately, the band combines their good fuzz-rock with the feeling of surf-rock and summer, and the title track from their latest 7”, Something in the Way, epitomizes this combination. The drums that might as well be hand-claps, the simple, surf-rock hook hiding just below the surface fuzz, and the 60s, girl-group-inspired heartache lyrics…I’m into all of it. I’ve been singing the chorus in my head for days, and after my third listen already this morning, I’m showing no signs of stopping. — Bill

I grew up there. I love it there and sometimes I feel bad for not giving my children a place like Utah to grow up in. Suburban Chicagoland is a fairly different place than suburban Salt Lake, much less a Logan, Utah.

So, anyway, I listen to the PRI Radio West podcast from Utah Public Radio over the Internet. It helps keep me in touch with my inner Utahn while allowing me to keep my distance from the truly Utahrded. It’s a great show and talks about issues with a Western frame of reference, which I appreciate.

This clip is from a show where they discuss marriage. This is an actual caller, from Utah expressing her opinion about how pay equity for women and men is inherently unfair.

So, yeah, there’s that. Sometimes I don’t feel so bad for raising my daughter from outside the Zion Curtain.

Curling Basics

Curling Basics

This is perhaps the geekiest thing, I’ve ever seen. ...

This is perhaps the geekiest thing, I’ve ever seen.
