As I was telling my friend Matt the other day, I overheard some “Man on the Street” interviews in which an NPR reporter asked people what issues were important to them and which candidate they supported. To my surprise, each person interviewed described some issue that matched exactly with the key message of one of the candidates, then named a different candidate they supported.
So, as a public service, I will list the leading candidates of the two major political parties in the U.S. and the main reason that people would want to vote for each candidate.
First, the Republicans:
Rudolph William Louis “Rudy” Giuliani: “Vote for me if you want to live.” (It’s important to say the last sentence in the voice of Arnold Schwarzenegger.)
Michael Dale “Mike” Huckabee: Vote for Mike if a conservative social agenda is the most important issue for you.
John Sidney McCain III: Vote for John McCain if you basically supported most of George W. Bush’s policies but found his politics distasteful and wish his administration would have been smarter in the execution of those policies.
Willard “Mitt” Romney: Vote for Mitt if you would like all of the problems in the United States to appear to be solved by some metric of your choice. Also if a conservative economic agenda is the most important issue to you, vote for Mitt.
Democrats:
Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton: Vote for Hillary if a liberal social policy is the most important issue for you. Also if you think the the largest failing of George W. Bush’s foreign policy was lousy execution, you should vote for Hillary.
Johnny Reid “John” Edwards: (Seriously that’s his name.) Vote for John if you think that corporations have too much power over individuals and that power can and should be given back to the people through the government.
Barack Hussein Obama: If you think that the most lasting damage from George W. Bush’s presidency was not necessarily his wars but the divisive, caustic policies of Karl Rove, you should vote for Barack Obama.
These views are obviously my own. I hope they help someone.
Cheers.
